The ACCCC holds quarterly meetings at various locations across the state to coordinate and strengthen cancer control efforts. We would like to thank everyone who attended the ACCCC meeting held on July 19, 2019 at the UAB O’Neal Comprehensive Cancer Center. At this meeting, Claudia M. Hardy, Program Director of the Office of Community Outreach and Engagement at the Center, presented on advancing health equity through community outreach and engagement. Ginny Campbell, ACCCC Vice-Chairperson and Alabama Government Relations Director of the American Cancer Society Cancer Action Network, gave an overview of the latest cancer-related policy and new legislation in the state. Finally, the 2019-2020 Shade Structure Grant award recipients were announced by Carol Garrett, Program Manager of the Alabama Comprehensive Cancer Control Program. The three public schools who received the award were:
Flowers Elementary located in Montgomery, Alabama. Ethel W. Barnes is the Principal.
Randolph Park Elementary located in Anniston, Alabama. Teresia J. Hall is the Principal.
Tanner Elementary located in Tanner, Alabama. Angie Barnes is the Principal.
Coalition member sponsors provided background information of the selected schools on behalf of the awardees. We appreciate all the sponsors for their support of the public schools that submitted applications. We look forward to working with you next year!
October 2019 Meeting
The next ACCCC quarterly meeting will be held in Montgomery, Alabama on October 18, 2019 at the Montgomery County Health Department. Members are encouraged to attend and, as always, the public is also welcome.
