Have a Goal and Have a Plan

Write down a set of personal goals and how to achieve those goals. Everyone needs to make a plan based on personal values and resources. Then make sure your actions support these goals. Health care providers and counselors can help you understand the clinical and lifestyle options that are best for you.

Make sure you include the following:

  • a family budget
  • an education plan
  • a career plan
  • prepare to start a family

Write your goals down. A planner like My Life, My Plan (2 MB) or Show Your LOVE! can help you get started. Where do you want to be the in the next year, five years, and 10 years? Look at your goals from time to time and see what you have achieved and what you still need to be working towards. Focus on your future – make it so bright that you have to wear shades!

Wait!

Wait, rest, recover, and plan! Waiting two years between pregnancies allows your body time to recover and can decrease the risk of having a preterm or low-weight birth. Plus, becoming a mom takes time to get used to. Take those two years to get into your mom groove and bond with your baby!
