Decatur Youth Services L.I.F.E.Project Description

Decatur Youth Services has partnered with the Alabama Department of Public Health and the Adolescent Pregnancy Prevention Branch to implement the Alabama Personal Responsibility Education Program (APREP). Our program, L.I.F.E. (Life Improvement with Factual Education), will utilize evidence based curriculum to educate adolescents on both abstinence and contraception, empowering youth to change their behavior in ways that will reduce their risk of an unplanned pregnancy or becoming infected with HIV and other STDs. Adult Preparation subjects addressed include Adolescent Development, Healthy Life Skills, and Healthy Relationships. Partner agencies include, but are not limited to, local Boys & Girls Clubs, Decatur Enrichment Services, Morgan County System of Services (Mental Health Association in Morgan County, which captures all referrals from Morgan County Juvenile Court and coordinates educational program for our foster care group homes), and the STIFF Foundation. Curricula include Making Proud Choices, Love Notes 2.1, and Seventeen Days.

Decatur Youth Services' goal is to help facilitate and encourage a community-wide effort in combating the problems that challenge our youth; such as the high rate of illiteracy, teen pregnancy, drug/alcohol abuse and tobacco use among teens, and juvenile delinquency.
