In honor of Women's History Month, WIAT-TV, Channel 42 in Birmingham, celebrated three women physicians as trailblazers, and Dr. Karen Landers, medical director for the Northeastern and Northern districts, was among them.
The segment celebrated the contributions of some of the most women across Central Alabama. The report quoted a Kaiser Foundation report that 64 percent of doctors are men, but now 51.9 percent of medical school students are women.
In an interview, Dr. Landers said she is glad more women are entering the profession. She said her goal from an early age was to be a physician and to make a difference in medicine, a goal she has accomplished.
Dr. Landers was previously the subject of a profile by Huntsville television station WHNT in 2021.
