Dementia Education, Care and Training (DETA)

The Alabama Legislature passed a bill in 2021 giving the Alabama Department of Public Health authority to provide education and services regarding care for individuals with Alzheimer's disease, dementia, or related disease to those individuals, their families, and the general public.

On September 12, 2022, Dr. Harris signed a new memo stating the "CMS Hand in Hand: A Training Series for Nursing Homes", offered through the Centers for Medicaid and Medicare Services is approved as an equivalent training for purposes of compliance with the State Board of Health Rules. A person should be able to register, take the course, and print out a certification upon completion.

The following training sites are good resources for anyone in the state wanting to further their knowledge on Alzheimer's disease and caring for someone. These sites may have a fee associated with training.
