The Alabama Department of Public Health (ADPH) is holding a COVID-19 vaccination clinic in Coosa County for people who qualify for vaccine. These individuals currently are healthcare providers, residents of long-term care, people who are 75 years old and older, police officers and firefighters.

The first clinic will be held on Friday, January 22, from 8:30 a.m. until 3:30 p.m. at the Coosa County E911 Building, 66 Communications Drive, Rockford, Ala. 35136. The public is asked to call the East Central Public Health District office at (334) 294-6400 or the toll-free COVID-19 Vaccine Hotline at (855) 566-5333 to schedule an appointment. Vaccinations are provided at no charge, and additional clinics will be held as needed.

As COVID-19 cases, hospitalizations and deaths increase, the public is reminded to follow measures to prevent the spread of the virus. Be aware of the symptoms of COVID-19 which consist of either cough or shortness of breath (difficulty breathing) or at least two of the following: fever, chills, repeated shaking with chills, muscle pain, headache, vomiting, diarrhea, sore throat, fatigue, congestion or runny nose, and new loss of taste or smell.

ADPH reminds the public about these measures to prevent the spread of COVID-19:

  • Wash your hands frequently with soap and water for 20 seconds
  • Social distance by staying 6 feet away from others
  • Avoid people who are sick
  • Stay home if you can; work remotely if possible
  • Cover your mouth and nose with a face covering when around others
  • Cover coughs and sneezes
  • Clean and disinfect frequently touched surfaces
  • Monitor your health and get tested if symptoms develop

ADPH is working to improve COVID-19 vaccine scheduling capabilities and is creating an online registration portal to augment the toll-free hotline. Additional information will be provided through the ADPH vaccine website, social media and news releases.

General information about COVID-19 is available through the COVID-19 Information Hotline number, 1-800-270-7268.
