The Barbour and Henry county health departments in the Southeastern Public Health District currently offer a program called Well Woman.

The Well Woman program creates the opportunity for women ages 15-55 to receive preventative health screenings and management of chronic diseases. The goal of the Alabama Department of Public Health (ADPH) Well Woman program is to provide preconception and inter-conception care to women of childbearing ages as a foundation for wellness, through health counseling/coaching, health promotion, chronic disease identification and assistance with planning/adopting a healthy lifestyle.

The program started in 2017 as a pilot program in Butler, Dallas and Wilcox counties. The successes of the program in those three counties led to an expansion. In October 2018, ADPH received funds from a governor’s initiative addressing infant mortality, and a dedicated portion of these funds were combined with the Title V MCH federal funds to expand the Well Woman program to Montgomery, Macon and Russell counties. The program is now available to women in Barbour and Henry counties.

“A Well Woman visit begins with the woman visiting the county health department for her services,” Crystalee Walters, Maternal and Child Health coordinator, said. “Please call the Barbour County Health Department at (334) 687-4808 or the Henry County Health Department at (334) 585-2660 to schedule an appointment and start living a healthier lifestyle.”

The operating hours of the Barbour and Henry County Health Department are from 8 a.m. – 5 p.m. Central time, Monday through Friday. The Barbour County Health Department is located at 634 School St., Eufaula. The address of the Henry County Health Department is 505 Kirkland St., Abbeville.
