Aerodigestive Problems, When It's Hard to Swallow and to Breathe
Thursday, April 30, 2026 / 12:00-1:00 pm Central Time
This program will discuss aerodigestive problems, including noisy breathing that worsens with feeds, choking with feeds, coughing with feeds, reflux, and chronic cough or wheezing from swallowing problems. Aerodigestive programs have been created nationwide to optimize the diagnosis and management of these problems, as they include specialists in pulmonary, gastrointestinal, and ear, nose, and throat problems, speech and language therapists, dieticians, and social workers. Program faculty will provide information to help families navigate having a child who is having a hard time breathing and swallowing.
Measles: An Urgent Call to Action for Child Health Providers
Tuesday, June 9, 2026 / 12:15-1:30 pm Central Time
Vaccine hesitancy and measles are both on the rise. Federal policies have mirrored increasing public distrust of vaccinations and have created confusion among families of small children. More and more parents are refusing vaccinations at the point of care, creating threats to herd immunity and public health in general. As of February 21, 2026, the CDC has reported 982 confirmed cases of measles in the U.S., with states around Alabama reporting rising cases. The measles resurgence across the country is a prime example of this downward trend in rates of immunization. Many pediatricians have never seen measles cases in their practices, and this program will provide information to help them be prepared to address this disease as well as take steps to prevent it in their patient populations.
