STD/HIV Home Testing
STD/HIV home specimen collection and laboratory testing kits are now available by mail for all Alabama residents, and to selected individuals who are on PrEP therapy. Persons may request one test every three months.
The following home test combinations are available:
- Chlamydia/Gonorrhea (single-site), Syphilis, and HIV
- Chlamydia/Gonorrhea (triple-site), Syphilis, and HIV
- Chlamydia/Gonorrhea (triple-site), Syphilis, HIV, and Creatinine*
*The third home-test kit combination will be for designated individuals enrolled in PrEP.
Ordering the Kit
- Go to https://adph.onimaware.com to create an account.
- Complete the risk assessment using the website.
- Order a home test kit by choosing from the test boxes or building your own box.
- Imaware, Inc. providers will review and approve the order for each eligible client.
- Imaware, Inc. will mail a discreet home test kit to the client.
After You Receive Your Kit
- Log in to your account at https://adph.onimaware.com and activate your home test kit.
- Following the instructions, collect specimens and mail samples in a pre-paid package.
Note: Sexual health counselors with imaware, Inc. are available for support if you have questions about specimen collection.
Test Results
- Imaware, Inc. providers will review test results and release all negative results to the client portal.
- Imaware, Inc. providers will review all positive test results and make 3 attempts to notify the client before releasing their test results.
- You will receive a notice that your results are ready to view when results are posted in the imaware, Inc. client portal.
- Imaware, Inc. will notify the ADPH Division of STD of any positive syphilis or HIV test results.
- Imaware, Inc. will notify the ADPH Division of STD of any positive chlamydia or gonorrhea client who they were unable to contact.
Treatment and Follow-Up
- Imaware, Inc. providers will offer prescriptions to clients with private health insurance who tested positive for chlamydia.
- Imaware, Inc. will refer all uninsured or underinsured clients and those needing injectable treatment to their local county health departments.
- Imaware, Inc. will notify the Division of STD of all reactive syphilis or HIV test results.
- The Division of STD will follow up on all clients with reactive syphilis or HIV test results.
- The Division of STD will follow up on all clients with reactive chlamydia or gonorrhea who imaware, Inc. providers were unable to contact.
More About the Initiative
The Alabama Department of Public Health Division of Sexually Transmitted Disease Prevention and Control has collaborated with imaware, Inc. to implement home delivery STD/HIV specimen collection and laboratory test kits by mail. The purpose of the initiative is to promote STD/HIV testing among individuals at home in an effort to strengthen the STD/HIV prevention and control program in Alabama. The second phase of the project focuses on offering STD/HIV home specimen collection and laboratory test kits for all Alabama residents, including college/university students, and to selected individuals who are on PrEP therapy. Alabama residents will be able to request one STD/HIV home specimen collection and laboratory test kit per quarter.
