Oral Health and Prenatal Care Go Hand in Hand Count the Kicks On-Demand Training

November 2022

Evidence shows that receiving dental care during pregnancy can improve the health of both baby and mother by reducing the risk of gum disease and poor birth outcomes. Your body goes through a lot of changes during pregnancy – including changes to your mouth. Making sure you are taking care of your oral health may not be at the top of your to-do list, but it is even more important when you are pregnant. This is why the Alabama Department of Public Health, Office of Oral Health is partnering with the non-profit Healthy Birth Day, Inc. to bring Count the Kicks into your dental setting today! Count the Kicks is an evidence-based stillbirth prevention campaign - focusing on educating expectant parents on the importance of tracking fetal movement in the 3rd trimester. By connecting the dots between good oral healthcare in pregnancy and stillbirth prevention with your patients, you can reach more expectant parents with evidence-based information.
