Current Vaccination Efforts & Initiatives

Vaccination is Key! WIPE OUT HPV!

Vaccination is Key! WIPE OUT HPV! is a collaboration between the Immunization Division and Operation WIPE OUT Cervical Cancer Alabama. Getting vaccinated is one of the most convenient and safest preventative care measures available. Vaccines, such as the HPV vaccine, protect against cancer, with cervical cancer being the most common HPV-related disease. Nearly all cases of cervical cancer can be attributed to HPV infection. Operation WIPE OUT Cervical Cancer Alabama is a public health initiative aimed at eliminating cervical cancer by vaccinating against HPV and expanding access to cervical cancer screening and follow-up. We can eliminate cervical cancer as a public health problem in Alabama by:

  • Vaccinating more children and adolescents against HPV
  • Screening more women for cervical cancer
  • Ensuring that women who need follow-up can access services

For more information, please visit Operation WIPE OUT Cervical Cancer.

Don't Wait, Vaccinate Campaign

Fall and winter are times when viruses that cause respiratory disease usually circulate more heavily in the community. Vaccination against these respiratory viruses is important for everyone, especially those who are at higher risk of developing serious complications, including older Americans and those with medical conditions. Vaccines protect our community and players. As we gear up for fall and winter sports, make sure you and your family are up to date on all recommended vaccines, including respiratory virus vaccines. Don’t Wait, Vaccinate!

The Immunization Division partners with college and university athletic departments, ESPN, and select high schools throughout Alabama to raise awareness of the significance of vaccines.

Wild to Mild Campaign

Everyone six months and older should get a flu vaccine every season with rare exceptions. Flu vaccination has important benefits. It can reduce flu illnesses, visits to doctor's offices, and missed work and school due to flu. Wild to Mild is a CDC flu vaccination campaign that provides resources to encourage annual flu vaccination.

Routine Immunizations on Schedule for Everyone (RISE)

Let's RISE is a CDC initiative to provide actionable strategies, resources, and data to support getting all Americans back on schedule with their routine immunizations to protect everyone from vaccine-preventable diseases and disability.

Adolescent Immunization Action Week (AIAW) April 7-11, 2025

AIAW is a yearly observance held in April highlighting the importance of adolescent immunizations by encouraging healthcare providers and parents to take action by keeping their adolescents up to date on their recommended vaccines. On-time vaccination is critical to protect and prevent adolescents and young adults from getting sick and missing out on activities that are important to them.

National Infant Immunization Week (NIIW) April 21-28, 2025

NIIW is a yearly observance held in April highlighting the importance of proteting children two years and younger from vaccine preventable diseases.
