PrEP Services

What is PrEP?

Pre-Exposure Prophylaxis (PrEP) is a medication people can take before human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) exposure that is highly effective (up to 99%) at preventing HIV infection when taken as prescribed. There are two options for PrEP, including a daily pill or an injection given by a healthcare provider.

  • PrEP is medicine (pills or shots) that reduces your chance of getting HIV.
  • PrEP is available for persons who are HIV negative.
  • Before starting PrEP you must have a negative HIV test to make sure you don’t have HIV.
  • PrEP is available at the Montgomery County Health Department for insured and uninsured individuals.
  • HIV and STI testing is done every 90 days during a follow up appointment with a provider.
  • PrEP 101 English and Spanish

If you are interested in PrEP services, you should contact the Montgomery County Health Department.
