2011 Alabama Tornadoes

Catastrophic tornadoes on April 27, 2011, cut a path of destruction that resulted in more than 200 deaths, more than 1,000 injuries, and damage to thousands of homes and businesses in Alabama. Severe thunderstorms developed on April 14, from central Kansas south into northern Texas, and continued to move east, bringing severe thunderstorms into Mississippi and Alabama on April 15. Damages were reported across 28 counties. Seven confirmed fatalities and numerous injuries were reported statewide.

Although nothing can be done to prevent tornadoes, the Alabama Department of Public Health is committed to helping all residents be better prepared to take action for their health and safety.
