Ending the HIV Epidemic (EHE) Branch

In 2019, the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) unveiled the EHE Initiative, a national collaborative response developed and embraced by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, Health Resources and Services Administration, Indian Health Services, National Institute of Health, Office of the Assistant Secretary for Health, and the Substance Abuse and Mental Services Administration. The goal of EHE is to reduce new infections by 75 percent in the next five years and by 90 percent by 2030.

In Alabama, the EHE Initiative is a statewide effort with accelerated efforts to reduce new HIV infections within the five highest burden counties --- Houston, Jefferson, Mobile, Montgomery, and Tuscaloosa; and the 14 emerging counties --- Bullock, Calhoun, Dallas, Franklin, Lee, Lowndes, Macon, Madison, Marion, Morgan, Russell, Talladega, Walker and Winston.

To accomplish the goals of the EHE Initiative, Alabama’s plan to eliminate the transmission of HIV and reduce HIV-related deaths align with the EHE pillars.
