Pool Plan Review Information

Submission of Pool/Spa Plans

The Shelby County Health Department must review plans before construction, remodeling or conversion of any pools or spas are done. Plans shall include a certification by the architect or engineer that the public swimming pool/spa design and construction meets the specifications listed in the 2015 International Swimming Pool and Spa Code published by the International Code Council. The following items shall be submitted for plan review:

  • Completed application with $200 fee per pool and spa.
  • Four sets of plans stamped by a registered architect or engineer.

Plans shall include the following:

  • One longitudinal section of pool/spa
  • One transverse section through the main drain
  • Overall site plan
  • Detail view of equipment room
  • Vicinity map
  • Piping schematic including inlets, outlets, skimmers, etc.
  • List of pool/spa equipment, including make, model, etc.
  • Pool/spa volume, perimeter, and turnover rate, type of filter
  • Deck construction, slope, and distance for pool
  • Entry/exit information for pool/spa i.e. ladders, stairs, etc.
  • Barrier information for all pools
  • Details on all safety equipment (Emergency phone and emergency shutoff
    switch) and signage
  • Source of water and location of over the rim spout
  • Means of disposing of backwash water
  • Proposed lighting
  • Related facilities, i.e., bathhouse, showers, toilets, floor drains, drinking fountains
  • Copy of CPO certificate
