Alabama WISEWOMAN Program logo. The Alabama WISEWOMAN (Well-Integrated Screening and Evaluation for Women Across the Nation) Program is an extension of the Alabama Breast and Cervical Cancer Early Detection Program (ABCCEDP). The program focuses on identifying and reducing cardiovascular disease risk factors, while also providing support and clinical care for those at risk.

What is cardiovascular disease?

Cardiovascular disease is a broad term for all conditions affecting the heart and blood vessels, often caused by plaque buildup in the artery walls. This buildup makes it difficult for blood to flow into and out of the heart. Conditions include heart disease, heart attack, stroke, heart failure, and coronary artery disease.

Risk Factors for Cardiovascular Disease are:
  • High Blood Pressure
  • Obesity
  • High Cholesterol
  • Diabetes
  • Physical Inactivity
  • Tobacco Use
Why should I care?
