Recruitment/Retention

Welcome to Alabama’s Rural Health Recruitment and Retention website. In 2007, our agency began a free recruitment assistance service for rural and underserved communities in Alabama. Since that time, over 45 primary care professionals have been assisted with placements in rural Alabama. Many are participating in the National Health Service Corps Loan Repayment Program. And, no placement fees are ever charged for this service.

3RNETLOGO

3RNet is a national job hub for rural and underserved health care jobs, and our office utilizes the resources of 3RNet to provide a free recruitment and referral service for those interested in employment within Alabama. We target small, rural hospitals (49 beds or less), rural health clinics, and federally qualified health centers, and encourage these facilities to register as an employer in order to post jobs. Health care professionals, to include primary care physicians, general surgeons, OB/GYNs, psychiatrists, nurse practitioners, physician assistants and dentists are encouraged to register as candidates in order to be referred for job opportunities.

Please use the 3RNet website to register as an employer or a candidate.

Mission

Approximately 42% of all Alabama residents live in rural areas. Most of these rural areas are considered health professional shortage areas. Our mission is to improve access to health care providers for residents in these underserved rural communities. The Office of Primary Care and Rural Health is responding to the critical shortage of health care providers in rural Alabama by creating a free medical placement service within our office. Our medical placement staff is here to assist communities in the recruitment of primary care physicians, dentists, physician assistants and nurse practitioners.
