National Interest Waiver Program
The Alabama Department of Public Health provides letters of support for qualified National Interest Waiver (NIW) applicants. To qualify, applicants must satisfy the requirements enumerated in Alabama’s NIW guidelines and procedures. The guidelines contain an abbreviated procedure for requesting NIW letters of support for physicians who are already practicing in the state under a J-1 waiver. Other foreign-trained physicians who have not previously submitted J-1 waiver documents to the state are required to fully comply with all NIW documentation requirements.
