Bioterrorism
The Bioterrorism Branch utilizes certain molecular and conventional microbiology techniques to identify and characterize suspect agents. Conventional techniques include biochemicals and special stains. Molecular techniques consist of DNA/RNA extraction, amplification, and identification of target gene sequences to detect the presence of certain select agents. Time Resolved Fluorescence is used for some chemical identification. See also, Special Bacteriology and Emerging Infectious Diseases.
