Alabama’s Integrated Vision to Ending the HIV Epidemic

The Alabama Integrated HIV Prevention and Care Plan serves as the state’s comprehensive roadmap for reducing new HIV infections, improving health outcomes for people living with HIV, and advancing fairness in health across Alabama. Developed through collaboration with community members, healthcare providers, public health professionals, and partner organizations, the plan aligns prevention, care, treatment, and support strategies to strengthen Alabama’s statewide response to HIV.

Exciting News! We’re proud to share that our team will be presenting the 2027–2031 Alabama HIV Integrated Prevention and Care Plan development process during the Poster Exhibition at the 2026 National Ryan White Conference in Washington, DC!
This opportunity allows us to showcase our collaborative planning process, highlight innovative strategies, and share lessons learned with partners from across the country. We’re honored to represent Alabama and contribute to the national conversation on advancing HIV prevention and care.

If you’re attending the conference, we invite you to stop by our poster, connect with our team, and learn more about our journey in developing Alabama’s Integrated Plan. We look forward to seeing you in Washington, DC!

in+care Campaign

The Health Resources and Services Administration HIV/AIDS Bureau and the National Quality Center (NQC) have teamed up on this national retention campaign to improve our efforts to help people living with HIV stay in care or get into care. The campaign focuses on the simple idea that when patients stay in care they get the services that they need, leading to healthier people and stronger communities. PrEP: A New Tool for HIV Prevention

Pre-exposure prophylaxis, or PrEP, is a new HIV prevention method in which people who do not have HIV infection take a pill daily to reduce their risk of becoming infected. The pill contains medicines that prevent HIV from making new virus as it enters the body. In this way PrEP medicines can help keep the virus from establishing a permanent infection. Learn more about this new tool from CDC - PrEP.

nPEP: Nonoccupational Post Exposure Prophylaxis

The most effective means of preventing human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) infection is preventing exposure. The provision of antiretroviral drugs to prevent HIV infection after unanticipated sexual or injection-drug--use exposure might be beneficial. Read the recommendations of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) Working Group on Nonoccupational Postexposure Prophylaxis (nPEP) in the CDC's Morbidity and Mortality Weekly Report.
