  • Transportation Survey: The Alabama Community Health Improvement Plan (ACHIP) Access to Care Workgroup identified lack of transportation as one of the major issues affecting access to healthcare. To begin addressing the issues surrounding transportation barriers, ADPH conducted a series of telephone interviews with representatives of 115 safety-net healthcare and transportation providers across the state. This sample of providers primarily included rural hospitals, rural health clinics, federally qualified health centers, community mental health centers, and Department of Public Health social workers. Information from this healthcare provider survey was shared with the twelve Regional Planning and Development Commissions for inclusion in their Human Services Coordinating Transportation Plans. Further Access to Care Workgroup activities will focus on addressing the transportation service gaps and developing public health policy that will reduce transportation barriers.
