Resources on Hospital Perinatal Levels
The descriptions of neonatal levels on the Hospital Neonatal Levels Directory were approved by the Alabama State Committee of Public Health in 2016 and were based on guidance from the American Academy of Pediatrics at that time.

Guidelines Analysis Tool – to be used by hospitals to assess internal compliance with guidelines (for babies born weighing less than 1500g)
Maternal Levels of Care have not been implemented in Alabama, but here is a description of the levels developed by the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists along with the Society of Maternal-Fetal Medicine. Here is a one-page summary of the maternal levels developed by the Illinois Department of Public Health.
There are also regional referral centers in each of the five perinatal regions in the state. These Level III or Level IV NICUs accept transfers from their referral region and often can assist with transfer transportation. See also: Perinatal Regions Map.
