November 2014 Meeting Presentations

Kathe Briggs, Chair of the Obesity Task Force, provided a task force update to members. New committee chairs were presented as well as an update on task force goals. She also presented information collected on the geographical location of members showing the county where the majority of active members are living and working.

Hank Williford from Auburn University Montgomery gave a presentation on the "Get Moving Alabama" campaign that the task force will be rolling out in 2015. He shared information with members on the West Virginia model and discussed ideas for Alabama's campaign.

James H. Rimmer, Ph.D., of the Lakeshore Foundation Endowed Chair in Health Promotion and Rehabilitation Sciences and University of Alabama at Birmingham, presented on Lakeshore's research and programs to prevent obesity and promote the health and wellness of people with disabilities.

• A New Methodology for Translating Evidence-based Obesity Prevention Strategies for Youths and Young Adults with Disabilities from Diverse Race/Ethnic Backgrounds (4 MB)

Jade Shaffer, the campaign manager for VOICES for Alabama's Children's Healthy Food Financing Initiative shared a presentation on how VOICES is working to ensure the well-being of Alabama's children.
